Lichen Sclerosus

The Orgasm Shot® (O-Shot®) involves PRP Therapy to help with female sexual dysfunction or alleviate the symptoms of urinary incontinence or Lichen sclerosus. The Orgasm Shot® at the Urban Aesthetix Clinic uses injections of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) derived from your own blood so that you can enjoy sex again with stronger and more frequent orgasms.

PRP has been an alternative to surgery in regenerating skin tissue in wound healing and improve and refine scar tissue, orthopaedics, ENT, neurosurgery and maxillofacial surgery by promoting safe and natural healing. The technique in non-surgical aesthetics was first used by Dr Charles Runels, creator of the Vampire FaceLift®.

The (O-Shot®) is also used to treat Lichen sclerosus which causes significant itching and is often confused for thrush. It results in inflammation which eventually becomes scar tissue and can cause deformity and destruction to the clitoral region, urethra, vaginal opening and peri-anal region, making sexual intercourse painful and creating difficulty in passing urine and stools in severe cases.

Blood platelets contain growth factors that stimulate collagen synthesis, skin renewal, cell growth, and tissue regeneration. Plasma contains fibrinogen, a protein that catches platelets at a wound site to form a clot. Platelet-rich-plasma (PRP) therapy is therefore a completely natural way for your skin to rejuvenate and repair since it uses your own blood and your body’s own healing powers in inducing tissue growth.

An amount of blood is drawn, just like in a blood test, and spun in a centrifuge to isolate the platelets and plasma from the other components of blood. The PRP is usually then activated with calcium (chloride or gluconate) to trick the platelets into thinking that they are in the body and the body has been injured.

The PRP is then injected into the clitoris and the upper vagina. Multi-potent stem cells already in your skin therefore become activated ‘believing’ that new and younger tissue is needed. As a result, new tissue that includes new collagen is grown, new fatty tissue is produced for skin smoothness and new blood vessels (neovascularisation) are formed to increase blood flow. This encourages vaginal and clitoral rejuvenation, leading to improved lubrication, sensitivity, and ease and intensity of orgasm.

  • Lack of sexual desire: to end a declining libido and increase sexual desire
  • Clitoral stimulation: to improve arousal

What does the O-Shot® involve?

Treatment is simple and safe if carried out by Dr Unnati, who is an experienced and fully qualified clinician, following a detailed consultation to examine the areas to treat and decide on what is best for you.

Dr Unnati will apply a numbing anaesthetic cream into the vagina and onto the clitoris for a comfortable treatment. The PRP is then injected into the clitoris and the anterior vaginal wall, proximal to the G-spot. The O-Shot® adds volume to the treated area, in turn increasing sensation and sensitivity for women who have never had an orgasm and women looking to improve sensation during sex. When injected into the dermis of the skin affected by Lichen sclerosus, it improves the scar tissue.

The isolated platelets taken from your blood contain at least eight of your body’s own concentrated growth factors to rejuvenate skin quality and volume.

The treatment can take just 10 minutes, and you can resume most normal daily activities immediately afterwards.

How soon should you notice a difference?

Maximum benefit is seen at 3 months, at which another treatment can be done if needed. You may need up to 3 treatments for optimal results depending on the issue and severity.

Many patients experience a full resolution of urinary incontinence after the first procedure.

How long does treatment with the O-Shot®? last?

Yearly maintenance treatments are recommended.

Are there any side effects to the O-Shot®?

PRP Therapy with the O-Shot® involves injecting your own blood so any side effects are usually mild to moderate.

The short-lived side effects associated with the injection process include bleeding, swelling, tenderness and redness which settle within a few hours, and bruising which settles within a few days.

There is a minimal risk of infection as needles break the natural barrier to infection when creating a small wound in the skin. Please therefore avoid touching the area for 6 hours after treatment. You may experience some itching and discolouration at the site of treatment which should settle within a few days.

When should the O-Shot® not be used/be used with caution?

  • While pregnant or breast feeding
  • If you have critical thrombocytopaenia (a low number of platelets in the blood)
  • If you have septicaemia
  • If you have haemodynamic instability (an unstable blood pressure)
  • If the areas to be injected are inflamed or infected
